Summary from Good Reads:

There are those who don’t get luck handed to them on a shiny platter, who end up in the wrong place at the wrong time, who don’t get saved.

Luck was not on Callie’s side the day of her twelfth birthday when everything was stolen from her. After it’s all over, she locks up her feelings and vows never to tell anyone what happened. Six years later her painful past consumes her life and most days it’s a struggle just to breathe.

For as long as Kayden can remember, suffering in silence was the only way to survive life. As long as he did what he was told, everything was okay. One night, after making a terrible mistake, it seems like his life might be over. Luck was on his side, though, when Callie coincidentally is in the right place at the right time and saves him.

Now he can’t stop thinking about the girl he saw at school, but never really knew. When he ends up at the same college as Callie, he does everything he can to try to get to know her. But Callie is reserved and closed off. The more he tries to be part of her life, the more he realizes Callie might need to be saved.

Review:

When I read The Secret of Ella and Micha and its sequel, The Forever of Ella and Micha, I knew Jessica Sorensen was going to become one of my Favorite Authors.  And indeed, with The Coincidence of Callie and Kayden, she delivers another great story full of passion, love, hope and themes of salvation that characterize Sorensen’s novels.

In this book we meet Callie and Kayden, two people very different from each other, but with one thing in common: they both have suffered deeply and they have secrets that no one knows about. Callie and Kayden know each other from high school, but Kayden really notices Callie for the first time when she does something for him that saves his life…They meet again in college and Kayden can’t take his eyes off Callie. She attracts him like no other girl ever did, and he wants to know her, get close to her, be with that girl who he owes his life to…But Callie is afraid — afraid that she won’t be able to get close to him and to love him the way he deserves, because of what happened to her in the past. Will she give in?…

Callie and Kayden get to know each other little by little. There’s a scene between the two of them in the rain which is so beautifully written.  That is now one of my favorite scenes ever. I love that Kayden doesn’t give up on Callie. He wants her and he pursues her, without being deterred by all the secrets she keeps deep in her heart. Kayden is a beautiful guy, inside and out, and it doesn’t surprise me that he has conquered the hearts of a thousand readers all around the world, including my own…Kayden has his secrets too. He’s been through unbelievable cruelty and my heart ached for him throughout the whole book!

Callie has changed from the girl she was in high school. She’s more brave and more open and I admire her strength in doing so. Once she gets closer to Kayden, she understands that she can trust him and that they can save each other from their respective demons and emotional wounds.

As always, Jessica Sorensen’s writing captures the reader’s attention and all you want to do is keep reading without any interruption. The characters’ emotions are very well conveyed and once again I felt as if I was IN the book.

The Coincidence of Callie and Kayden ends with a cliffhanger, but don’t worry the sequel “The Redemption of Callie and Kayden” has just been released, so you can read it after reading “The Coincidence of Callie and Kayden” one after the other. I’ll be reviewing the sequel soon here!!
