Summary from GoodReads:
Her first year away is turning out to be nearly perfect, but one weekend of giving in to heated passion will change everything.
Eighteen-year-old Harper has grown up under the thumb of her career marine father. Ready to live life her own way and to experience things she’s only ever heard of from the jarheads in her father’s unit, she’s on her way to college at San Diego State University.
Thanks to her new roommate, Harper is introduced to a world of parties, gorgeous guys, family, and emotions. She finds herself being torn in two as she quickly falls in love with both her new boyfriend, Brandon, and her roommate’s brother, Chase. Despite their dangerous looks and histories, both men adore Harper and would do anything for her, including taking a step back if it would mean she’d be happy.
FYI: There won’t be any spoilers in this review- I wouldn’t want to ruin the reading experience for anyone by giving anything in this book away…
Harper: The character of Harper was written quite nicely, to say the least. She was a good girl who just wanted to experience college in her own ways. She automatically becomes best friends with her roommate, which is the total opposite of herself. But, she promised herself that now that she is away from her marine of a father that she is going to live more free. She gets invited to a gathering where she meets a not so subtle Chase. Chase then catches her eye by being a total immature ladies man. She writes him off because she doesn’t want anything to do with him. That WILL NOT stop Chase though. She ends up meeting the other famous guy Brandon in this new world of hers. Long story short, she needs to choose who to be with? or actually, who to become?
Brandon: I loved him right away- I’m probably in the minority here, but I was a big fan of him. He had so many wonderful qualities, and is most definitely the type of man any woman would be lucky to have. Not only did he have the looks to kill, but he was also selfless and forgiving- a man who never backed down, even when life knocked him to his knees. Unfortunately though, his honesty and faithfulness was taken advantage of in the worst kind of way. I really respected his character though, and commended him for being such a strong person through everything and for everyone.
Chase: He immediately fell for Harper- from his initial first meeting with her, which was really an awkward but cool kind of moment on her part. Perhaps what drew him to her the most was the fact that she was always out of reach to him. His character just seemed to be thrown from page to page, where he was either trying to keep his distance from Harper for one reason or another, or he was throwing himself at her. He was willing to be a completely different man and everything Harper would want him to be, but I never understood why she wouldn’t accept that. He is the dream guy that every girl wants a man to be. He tries and says all the perfect things and at all the perfect moments.
While reading this story, I never really chose a “guy team” that typically happens when reading a book revolving around a love triangle theme. At times I felt like I was leaning towards one guy, and pages later I would be leaning towards the other. This book is a tear your heart out and stomp on it kind of book, but it is also is a lovely heart-felt novel which I absolutely adore. I would love to find more books like these out there. It is such an awesome book to read PEOPLE, SO IF YOU HAVEN’T READ IT YET, DROP EVERYTHING YOU ARE DOING AND DO SO!!!! This book will bring you through A LOT of ups and downs, but it will make you think twice about your own life…
